Karaoke Date Night
by Jennifer Good

A karaoke date night may not be high on the list of romantic things to do together, but it most certainly rates well in the category of ridiculous entertainment. This is especially true if you happen to be a fun, zany, don't care what anyone thinks about you couple. What's even better is this date can be an out-on-the-town affair or something attempted in the privacy of your home. To get you started we've included tips and ideas for both locations.
At Home Event
What You'll Need:
Karaoke Machine
Microphones
Karaoke CDs
Fun Extras:
Microphone Stands
Feather Boas and other embarrasing props
Drinks (you might need some additional courage)
Snacks (finger foods like chips & pretzels are perfect)
Camera (to record your most embarrassing moments)
Once you have everything you need, go over your song lists together and pick out well-known favorites you'd both like to sing. Write down the CD and track number on your list so you can easily change out your music when it comes time. Don't worry if you don't have the best voice in the world. This date night isn't meant to be competition and in fact can be more even more fun if you CAN'T sing. If you love music and you love to sing -- that's all that matters.
Fun Twists
Karaoke Suicide
For the brave, karaoke suicide offers it's own special brand of fun and entertainment. You pick a CD and you HAVE to sing every song on it, whether you know the song or not. If you're feeling especially evil, select a CD that's full of songs niether of you know.
Karaoke Sing-A-Round
In this fun karaoke game, each person takes turns singing only one line at a time of the song. This can be quite amusing for very fast-paced songs.
Loving You
You can still keep your date night romantic with the choice of songs you sing. Pick out only duets to sing with each other or select love songs that have special meaning to you both.
Karaoke Style Games
Most video game consoles have karaoke-style games available. Stop by a video game rental store to check out a few to try. If you one of you is the singer and the other is more the instrumental type, check out band-style games Rock Band and Guitar Hero: World Tour. If you both like any particular game, consider buying it for a repeat date night.
Karaoke Bar
If you don't have access to the equipment to have an at-home date night, consider taking your date out on the town. There are tons of karaoke bars to try, so finding one that feels right for you both should be an easy undertaking. A lot of restaurants host Karaoke Night as well, so consider making it a "dinner and a song" date.
The best part about going out for this date night is that usually you will only get an opportunity to sing once or twice. So most of the date can be spent playing American Idol judge to the other participants. The con, you'll have to sing once or twice while everyone else judges you. Keep this in mind and consider your own and your date's penchant for public appearances.
Making It Fun:
Pick out a duet song to sing to each other.
Dress up in your flashiest 70s or 80s theme clothing and go all-out.
Sing a special song to each other.
Sings songs that are only from a certain agreed-upon decade.
Make it a fun competition. Whoever gets the most cheers for their performance gets a special "treat" from the other person.
