Dear Love

AdviceWire

I have been with my boyfriend for over a year now and I really do love him, but most of the time it's as if we have nothing in common, but we still have fun just hanging out. He always says I am insecure, but he makes me that way. I see him flirting with girls online, but he says its OK because they live far away. Then he ignores me all the time so he can watch TV or play on the Internet. Last night I found a picture of a nude woman on his computer and I demanded he tell me who it was and to delete it. He said it was some random girl online that he happened to be talking to and she sent the picture. Then he said I couldn't tell him what to do and he wasn't going to delete it. He went on to say he was tired of me trying to make him do things he didn't want to do and then he broke up with me. He says we can get back together if I just accept how he is and stop nagging him. I love him so much, but I want him to make these small changes for me. Should I give up or keep trying? -Are There Greener Pastures?

Dear Are There Greener Pastures?,
It doesn't sound like this relationship was making you very happy. I find that people tend to cling to relationships like an old blanket or a favorite shirt. Just because it's comfortable and you feel you know it, that doesn't always make it the best choice for you. If you look into your heart, you'll probably realize this guy wasn't the catch of your dreams. Every person deserves someone who will treat them as an equal and treat their concerns respectfully. Actions have to follow up on words, and it doesn't look like he has been very responsive. If it were me, I would give my heart a little time to feel sorry for itself, then move on to greener pastures. Because, in this case, I think there are definitely better grazing fields available for you!

With Love,

Love
