We know the best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, so why not create little sensual bites that can actually be a healthy alternative to the traditional box of chocolates?
Leave room for dessert
They’re seductive, sinful, yet so incredibly simple to make, it’s a wonder why chocolate-dipped strawberries (or chocolate-dipped anything) are not a staple at more parties or for quick pick-me-ups. This recipe, with low-cal and sugar-free options, is the perfect way to begin your romantic streak. To get started, you will need the following.
Supplies:
- Strawberries with stems (washed and dried)
- Chocolate (chips or bars will work)
- Butter or shortening (as a chocolate thinner)
- Microwavable bowl or double boiler (for melting chocolate)
- Baking sheet lined with wax paper (for cooling chocolate-dipped strawberries)
Instructions:
Step 1: Chop or shave chocolate
Coarsely chop or shave chocolate bar. If you’re using chocolate chips, feel free to start immediately at step 2.
Step 2: Melt chocolate
In a microwavable bowl or double boiler, combine chocolate pieces or chips with either butter or shortening (about 2 tablespoons per 16 ounces of chocolate). If using a microwavable bowl, heat at intervals of 20 seconds, stirring in between, until chocolate is smooth.
Step 3: Dip strawberries
While holding the strawberries by the stem, immediately begin dipping strawberries in chocolate. If chocolate begins to harden, microwave again to retain the same smooth consistency.
Step 4: Place on baking sheet
After you dip the strawberries, place them on pan, wax paper facing up so chocolate will not stick.
Step 5: Refrigerate
Once all strawberries have been placed on the baking sheet, transfer them to the refrigerator to cool for at least 10 minutes. Do not transfer to freezer — it will freeze the fruit.
Step 6: Enjoy!
For added decoration, melt additional chocolate to drizzle over the chocolate-dipped strawberries, or dust with some cocoa.
Tip
For less sugar, opt for dark chocolate instead of milk or white chocolate. Try Simply Lite dark chocolate bars that boast rich chocolate flavors with hints of cinnamon and vanilla yet are sugar-free and a low-carb alternative.
