Housework
Have you ever noticed that your house is never cleaner than during the holiday season? Between all the holiday guests and the holiday photos being taken in your living room, you always want to keep your space neat and clean. Doing so can burn more calories than you might think. Did you just spend an hour vacuuming the ground floor of your house? Don’t feel so guilty about skipping the gym, ladies! Activities like vacuuming and furniture moving can be big calorie burners and the best part is that you can watch TV while doing them without even noticing that you’ve just spent time exercising.
Decorating
Decorating your house for the holidays can be a lot of fun, but it can also be an intense physical activity. Just think about it: You’re lifting all those boxes of ornaments and decorations and carrying them up or down flights of stairs, and you’re likely taking a few trips back and forth. Then there’s all the moving around the house you’ll be doing when you’re decorating each room. All these things might seem little, but they can sure add up.
Baking
Baking and exercise are sort of like yin and yang. Exercise is super healthy for you, but baking can be a dangerous activity if you lack a certain amount of self-control (like us!). But baking can actually be a nice way to burn some calories. Walking around the kitchen all day, lifting pots and pans, etc. can get you moving and get your heart racing while you’re multitasking all day long. Consider this your excuse to test the cookies later!
Shopping
Unless you choose to do all your holiday shopping on your couch (online!), you’re likely spending a lot of time running from mall to mall in search of that perfect gift for everyone on your list. Sure, shopping can be fun, but it’s also a nice physical activity that can really add up. Spend a few hours on your feet in the mall, and you’ll definitely feel your heart racing!
