Shake It Up

Exercise can be excruciatingly boring, but it doesn’t have to be. We’ve found the perfect way to get in shape and have fun at the same time – dancing.

Dance yourself skinny

You don’t have to be a professional dancer to enjoy dancing, and you certainly don’t have to be good at it in order to get in shape. Dancing is a fantastic way to shed some pounds and have fun at the same time. We’ve compiled the top four reasons dancing is a great workout, and if we have any say in it, you’ll be breaking out your dancing shoes in no time.

It’s fun

Let’s face it, ladies, there’s a reason all the hottest celebs are signing up for Dancing with the Stars — dancing is a fun exercise! If you’re a gal who hates the bored repetition of the treadmill or exercise bike, dancing is a great way to burn fat and have a fun time. Put on your favorite music, grab your gal pals and shake it out for an hour. You’ll be losing weight in no time if you keep at it.

It works different muscles

Sometimes we all get stuck in exercise ruts. Many of us tend to do the same workout over and over and work the same old muscles time and again. But dancing is a great way to get a full body workout and work muscles you might not have known you had.

It’s a great mind exercise

When you’re dancing, you’re not only working your muscles, you’re also working your mind. Paying attention to the beat and the dance steps requires concentration and memory skills, and that’s why dancing is a doubles as a fun exercise and a mental workout.

You can do it from home

A lot of workout programs require a subscription to a gym or expensive workout equipment, but all you need to dance is some music and two feet. Whether you set up shop in your backyard and dance to the tunes of your iPod, workout with an at-home dancing DVD or get your groove on with a dancing video game (we love the Just Dance series from Wii), dancing is an accessible and inexpensive way to sweat it out.
